Cavity Wall Extraction

Removing and replacing cavity insulation

Cavity wall insulation is a great way to save money on your energy bills, prevent heat from escaping through your walls and keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in the summer.

The effectiveness of cavity wall insulation is emphasized by being included as a primary measure in Government energy efficiency initiatives, including the Energy Company Obligation which is designed to provide low cost and free insulation to suitable and qualifying households, helping to reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

There are instances, however, where householders require the cavity wall insulation removing, as it is deemed to be defective.

If you are experiencing problems with existing insulation which has been installed without an appropriate industry-backed guarantee, the good news is that we are able to assess your insulation, property suitability and customize a solution that is best for your home.

There may be a number of reasons why you may need your cavity wall insulation replacing:

  • Incorrectly installed insulation which is producing cold or damp spots within the building fabric.
  • Defective insulation
  • Insulation becoming wet through poorly maintained properties
  • Insulation becoming wet through flooding or fire damage.
  • Leaking roof

Should the existing cavity insulation be removed?

There are a couple of ways of finding out if there are any problems with your insulation. This can be as simple as looking around the property for poorly maintained brickwork or patches of insulation exposed to the elements (possibly via the roof).

We also have some really great tools that allow us to review the insulation. A bore-scope inspection is a fairly quick and easy way to determine the type of insulation used and how it’s performing. We can gather photographic evidence from around the property to understand where any problems may be occurring.

Thermal imaging is another tool that helps diagnose areas of the property that may be losing heat and also provide a map of where any cavity insulation may be failing.

Why would you remove cavity wall insulation?

The cavity may have been insulated when unsuitable previously due to having an existing damp problem, poor maintenance, or perhaps the material used wasn’t the appropriate solution for the cavity, these are examples to name but a few.
